Master Artists Mentor And Build Next-Gen Talents in Cebu, NCR, and Bacolod

CEBU CITY – Jan Leeroy New, Shell NSAC 2004 and 2006 2nd-place winner for Sculpture is a celebrated artist whose installations have won acclaim in New York, Paris, Dubai, Singapore, and other major global centers. The 55th Pilipinas Shell’s National Student Arts Competition (NSAC) and its face-to-face Art Interact events throughout 2022 provided venues where master artists built the next generation of talents in Metro Manila, Bacolod, and Cebu. In the Cebu Aliens workshop, Leeroy New showed creative ways to reuse and recycle plastics to create wearable art pieces. He said this approach stemmed from his youth where, as a student at the Philippine High School for the Arts, he learned how to be resourceful. “I would go to recycling centers when I had no sources for my art. 55th Shell National Students Art Competition (NSAC)

Last Saturday, Dec. 10, 2022 at The Kabilin Center, Cebu City, the 55th Shell NSAC took place. It was the first face-to-face event since the Pandemic. Various young artists from Manila, Bacolod and Cebu joined in this prestigious occasion. Ms. Haidee Emmie Palapar (Head, TKC), Mr. Jonathan Juanillo (Social Performance Adviser for Downstream Ph Pilipinas Shell Petroleum Corp), Mr. Clodoveo G. Nacorda (Commissioner at Historical and Cultural Affairs Commission) and NSAC 2nd Prize Winner, Mr. Leeroy New were present to welcome and inspire the aspiring young artists who attended the event. For more than five decades, Pilipinas Shell's Shell NSAC has nurtured the minds of our youth, allowing them to express their thoughts and creativity in various fields of art and has produced countless of ground-breaking artists.   Shell never fails to support our aspiring young artists through training and providing a platform to keep the Philippine Art industry moving forward.
