SINUG SA CASA GORORDO: THE TRADITION CONTINUES

Sinug sa Casa Gorordo was held at the Casa Gorordo Museum on January 22, 2024, the traditional prayer-dance offered to the Holy Child Señor Sto. Niño captivating the hearts and minds of guests at the museum.

Guests, including representatives of families residing in Cebu City’s Parian District, where Casa Gorordo is located, joined the Mabolo Dance Troupe in their performance at the museum garden. Gorordo descendant, Josefa “Pepit” Gorordo Revilles, one of the original residents of the house, was in the audience.

The performance includes lifting up the prayers of various individuals asking for intercession. It also includes praying for the souls of deceased loved ones.

The Gorordo family was the primary host of the Sinug performance every Monday after the Fiesta Señor. This tradition, along with other beloved house customs, have been carried over into contemporary times by the Ramon Aboitiz Foundation, Inc. (RAFI) which acquired the property in the late 1970s. Through the house traditions, the RAFI Culture and Heritage Unit manifests its mission of being “a guide to the world that shaped Cebuano cultural identity.”
